Jesus Blesses the Children

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” Then Jesus embraced them and blessed them, placing His hands on them. Mk 10:14-16

Our Blessed Lord Jesus offered the greatest sermon ever preached. It is called the Sermon on the Mount. In it our Lord speaks to His followers about how He wants them to relate to God. God is to be their Father. The followers of Jesus are to be God’s children. The disciples of the Lord are to trust that God loves them, knows their needs and provides for them.

Children are dependent upon others to care for them, nurture them and give them what they need. Children trust in others. This is why Jesus says that in order to enter God’s Kingdom we have to become like children. We do not earn the Father’s love. We have to accept it as a gift. As God’s children we trust that He freely provides for us whenever we ask in the name of His Beloved Son, Jesus.
