Pope Benedict’s Prayer Intentions

Each month our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI asks the Catholics in all countries to pray for certain individuals, causes or needs. For January he has asked the Church to pray for:

Victims of Natural Disasters.
That the victims of natural disasters may receive the spiritual and material comfort they need to rebuild their lives.

Dedication to Peace.
That the dedication of Christians to peace may bear witness to the name of Christ before all men and women of good will.

Christmas Decorations

The parish Floral Committee will meet this Monday, January 9 at 9am in the church to take down the Christmas decorations. Please come out and lend a hand. Many hands make light work.

Floral Committee Meeting

When the Floral Committee is finished taking down the Christmas decorations, they will hold a meeting in the nursery of the church. If you would like to help create or learn how to put together these beautiful arrangements which adorn our altar every Sunday please make plans to attend this meeting.

Please Help in God’s House

After every Mass at the Sunday Masses we have Angels who help keep our pews neat and beautiful. With the addition of the Pew Cards this task has become a little more difficult. We ask that everyone help keep God’s house beautiful by returning the missalettes and pew cards as you found them. We have found that keeping the cards directly behind the missalettes helps to keep them from falling from the holders, and still allows the congregation to have easy and quick access during the Mass. Thank you and God bless you all for helping us keep God’s house beautiful at all times.

Wednesday Marian Devotions

Please fill out your petitions for the month of January and place them in the box in the vestibule. These petitions will be offered at our shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary before Mass every Wednesday during January.

+Please Pray

Please pray for the repose of the soul of +Wilbur Dupre, brother of our parishioner, Herb Dupre.

Do you want to - Grow in love with Christ?
Do you want to - Take Spiritual leadership in your family?
Do you want to - Appreciate more deeply your Catholic Faith?

Come to the meeting of The Men of St. Joseph in our parish on Tuesday ∙ January 10 from 6:30-7:30am in the church nursery. Meetings will continue every Tuesday at this time. Please join us!

Eucharistic Healing Blessing

One of the great traditions of healing in Lourdes, France is the priest taking the monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament and giving individual blessings with Jesus for healing. This is taking place after every Wednesday evening Mass. If you or someone you know is sick, come to Mass on Wednesday and stay to receive a Eucharistic blessing. We recall the lady of Faith in the scriptures who said,

“If I only touch the hem of His garment
I know that I will be healed.” (Luke 8:42)

That same Jesus will be present in the Eucharist to offer His healing to those who approach Him with Faith and trust.

Musical Celebration of Mary

“A Musical Celebration of Mary” is a concert event which benefits Mary’s Shelter Gulf Coast, a home for homeless pregnant women. This concert features Randy Albright, “The Johnny Cash of Catholic Music.” The concert will be held at 2pm Tuesday, Feb. 14 at St. Thomas-by-the-Sea in Orange Beach. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance by calling Judie Flanigan at 968-7818.

Why Silence in the Church?

Adoration is the first attitude of man that he is creature before his Creator. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the “King of Glory.” Hence, respectful silence in our church gives glory to the sovereign God of love. Adoration before our Lord present in the tabernacle fosters adoration before the Lord really and truly present in the Most Holy and Blessed Sacrament of the altar. Please keep this in mind before and after Mass. When entering or leaving church please observe silence.

If you want to talk to your fellow parishioners please whisper one line ∙ “I’ll meet you in the vestibule.”

Ministry in Spotlight

We are highlighting the many ministries of our parish and talking about some of the important work that is conducted within these ministries. We are also be posting pictures regarding these ministries on the bulletin board located in the vestibule of the church.

Ladies of Margaret

The Ladies of St. Margaret serve our parish in a variety of ways. The chief and perhaps most special ministry they offer is to provide luncheons for bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. Further they organize our most delightful Christmas Bazaar on the first Saturday of December. They also are the catalysts for so many of our social events. They provide for the needs of our altar and shrines in the church. Further, all the money they make goes to provide for the needs of the church. If you are a lady in the parish please get involved with the Ladies of St. Margaret. They meet every first Tuesday of the month at 9:30am in the parish hall. If you have any questions or would like some more information about the Ladies and their many activities give Joyce Gaar, president, a call at 965-7146 or email her at jdgaar@gulftel.com.

R.C.I.A (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

  • Do you know anyone interested in the Catholic Faith?
  • Do you want to learn more about our Catholic Faith?

We will begin RCIA classes on -Wednesday, December 7 at 6:30pm in the Father Bede Center. The classes will continue every Wednesday through Easter. These classes are for those non-Catholics who are interested in knowing the Catholic Faith and for Catholics who wish to grow in their Faith.

St. Benedict Catholic School

We are extremely proud of our parish school, St. Benedict’s located in Elberta. Next Sunday our parish begins it’s annual fund drive to assist St. Benedict Catholic School to thrive. St. Benedict Catholic School provides an excellent education and imparts our Catholic Faith to our young people. Each parishioner is asked to make a pledge and give to St. Benedict School starting next Sunday. Please receive an annual fund pledge/gift letter in the vestibule of the church next Sunday and consider making a sacrificial gift. These funds will go, in particular, to help families with financial needs to educate their children at St. Benedict School this year. God bless you in advance for your generosity.

“Angel Tree”

Every year Catholic Social Services sponsors project “Angel Tree.” This project provides Christmas gifts to children and holiday turkeys and hams to needy families throughout our community. Beginning this weekend our Angel Tree will be located in the vestibule of the church. Please take an ornament from the tree, There will be volunteers present to assist and answer any questions. Please take the ornament. You may then drop your gift off in the vestibule with the ornament attached to the gift beginning next weekend, November 12 & 13. Please do not drop gifts off before this date. If you are unable to purchase your gift, please leave the ornament with a check made out to Catholic Social Services in the vestibule of the church. God bless you in advance for your generosity in providing holiday cheer to those less fortunate.

Happy Birthday Thanks

It is with a heart full of gratitude that I thank you for your birthday goodness to me. First… WOW! Thanks to the Parish Council, Ladies of St. Margaret, Men of St. Margaret, the Hispanic Liturgical Committee & CYO for my unbelievably awesome IPad. The Parish Council presented it to me at the dinner they hosted for me at Ivey’s Restaurant. Further, deep thanks to every one of you who sent me cards and gifts. I cannot describe my gratitude enough. While I cannot write you individual notes, please know of my individual thanks for your special kindnesses. With all these acts of generosity to me, I am reminded that I am the “unworthy pastor” of St. Margaret parish. I am blessed to be with you.

Finding Meaning in Our Day

Frequently our normal day can seem humdrum and the occurrences haphazard. How do we find meaning in what we do and what happens to us each day? A tried and true method is to offer the following prayer called ∙ “The Morning Offering.”

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day
for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in union
with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,
in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends,
and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.

For a deeper understanding of the spirituality of the morning offering, please consult the following website: www.apostleshipofprayer.org

Lay Carmelites

For centuries Christians have lived in communities and focused on particular ways of spirituality. The Carmelite tradition is such a path in existence for over 800 years. Lay members of Carmel have been called to live out the charism of the Carmelite Order in the world of the every day. Carmelite lay communities are comprised of both men and women on their lives’ journey following the Christ of the Gospels. Do you have the desire to deepen your prayer life and to live intimately in love with Jesus? If your answer is YES or you would like more information about the Lay Carmelites please call Mary Anne Gingras at 943-6338 to find out more about this beautiful contemplative community.

God Bless and Protect America

This Sunday, September 11, 2011 we remember those who died during the attacks on our country in New York City, Washington, DC and in Somerset County, PA on this day ten years ago. This simple, little prayer came from Franciscan Priest, Fr. Mychal Judge, who was killed on 9/11 at the World Trade Center while he was ministering to a fallen firefighter.

Lord, take me where you want me to go.
Let me meet whom you want me to meet.
Tell me what you want me to say,
And keep me out of your way.
Amen

In order to show our Lord that we have deep respect for the Real Presence of His Body and Blood in the Eucharist, we dress with dignity. God has given us the greatest gift, His Son, and in return it is appropriate to present ourselves in proper clothes that are modest as a sign of reverence and respect for this gift.

LAY CARMELITES

For centuries Christians have lived in communities and focused on particular ways of spirituality. (Carmelite, Benedictine, Franciscan, Dominican…etc.) A tradition of spirituality is a path to holiness; a path that has proven to be reliable. The Carmelite tradition is such a path in existence for over 800 years. Lay members of Carmel have been called to live out the charism of the Carmelite Order in the world of the every day. Carmelite lay communities are comprised of both men and women on their lifes’ journey following the Christ of the Gospels. Do you have the desire to deepen your prayer life and to live intimately in love with Jesus? If your answer is YES please call Mary Anne Gingras at 943-6338 to find out more about joining this beautiful contemplative community.
